how does the heat things in Avali clothing work? an electrical system would make noise and require a battery.

The cloaks and wraps and stuff you see them wearing on their homeworld is just regular clothing. The special survival equipment they'd use offworld like the survival cuirass would indeed have pumps and refrigeration systems that'd be quite audible and run off batteries (Avali being considerably more advanced technologically than us have power-packs many orders of magnitude more powerful than our batteries. So they'd get a decent battery life out of such equipment).
The cuirass would mount the pumps and refrigeration systems, and then there'd be a series of ports, so that additional parts could be plugged into it, like you might have some kind've leggings or cloak with coolant lines under the fabric, and you'd connect the hose on that into the cuirass so it could pump coolant through.

Something else just occurred to me; given that the Avali have no form of anti-gravity for their ships, do they have any means of generating artificial gravity, whether by some form of tech-handwave or through designing their ships to easily generate the desired gravitational force the old-fashioned way?
And just to make sure, did you get the message I sent you yesterday?

They use traditional means to produce artifical gravity if required (ie. rotating habitats). It's interesting to remember though that if they're using a drive that requires little to no reaction mass (ie. emdrive) then their ships could accelerate indefinitely over the course of the journey. Which means at least during transits, the crew would never experience weightlessness and thus they wouldn't need fancy space-magic "artifical gravity" because good old Newtonian physics will keep them attached to the floor.
It's only in stable orbit that weightlessness become an issue, and even that is dubious as problems go (In a zero g, pressurized environment, Avali could use their wings, they wouldn't be as helpless as a human!). Of course, when doing combat manuvering you better strap on a harness if you don't want to have sudden introduction to the nearby bulkhead.
And yes I got your message, I'll be re-opening the lore thread shortly so people can ask questions there.

For whatever reason, I can't get it out of my head that this Avali is our first glimpse of a young kit. Confirm (for Half Life 3)?

yeah, he/she does look younger.

I'd think it's just the chibi stylisation <w<
Kits would either be ugly and bald slimy burbs, or
pink little floofballs = w =
And Realistically™ they'd probably have really really thin limbs and look gross overall owo;

Well, I was thinking pre-adolescent child, not a recently-hatched infant...

It's mainly just the stylisation. (Also it's a she :p)
I had a sudden realization why they looked too "big". Remember they're only meant to be less than half the size of a human, but the way I'd been drawing them it felt that sense of scale was lost. The reason it occurred to me is that their clothing and fabrics are also being scaled down. The tensile strength of belt, or minimum thickness of a fabric doesn't change greatly with size. So straps, buckles and belts on Avali should be proportionally larger, soft materials should appear much thicker, emphasizing that the creature wearing them are physically smaller.
Clearly it worked, because the first thing everyone saw on seeing this rendition is "tinyvali!, must be a kit" :p
Proportionally compared to past examples that is sort've kit-like. But I'd rather call it Avali 2.0 and make the adolescent kits even more top heavy
- As for ACTUAL babies. They'd still be fluffy, most egg-laying species
come out the egg furred/feathered and
quickly fluff up. They don't have a squishy
pink violet? phase
EDIT: look closely at the baby chicks wing and you can see some pin-feathers that have yet to unfurl as I described in the old lore thread :p

Heh, so adolescent kits would basically be ultra-chibi, then? Now that's something that needs to be seen.
Avali 2.0: introducing the cutest little augmented-killer-cyborg-raptors that you've ever laid eyes on (
as well as the very last thing)!
I'm finally getting around to reading more of Einsteinian Roulette.
It's even better than slowly browsing my reddit subcriptions!

i so want to see a hatching Avali and an Avali that is in the fluffed stage (like on the img)
Actually, speaking of Avali kits, I'm curious about how much of a relative age range there typically is between individual members of each pack, and how much such an age gap can be stretched between bonding kits. Is it plausible for a toddler-equivalent kit (think 3 or 4 years old) to bond with young adolescent or almost-adolescent kits?
Speaking of age, how long does it take for an Avali to grow to maturity, in terms of human years? (And how long are Avalon's yearly cycles in comparison to Earth's?)
