You used to be able to but bionicle kitbashes as separate sets. Seriously though I have a little art book somewhere full of fan-made kitbashes. All kinds of different animals and stuff made out of various bionicle parts. They're pretty good for kitbashing because you get so much articulation with them, a few other Lego "brands" of the time had really similar styles probably because of that.

... I will never do it (or any of the other ones I saw up until now) of course because I'm a scaredy cat.

Also Umbra the appeal of Bionicle to me is mostly the story, the characters etc.
As much as they're fun to build and mess around with, it's not why I love them (although the sets still are pretty awesome).
Also they can be VERY creative when it comes to building, almost everything in my DA favourites are Bionicle creations ^^;

Like I said. Actual joints make bionicle cool for building stuff, it's not compatible with regular legos though so you still have to be inventive.
