That's also a good idea. For Umbra, you could just find a way to deactivate all of his Ether technology, which I could probably help with ideas for.

In case it wasn't obvious, I'm looking for advice to not royally screw this up whenever I actually do it<<--

// Well, he might be hard for Umbra... especially since he can only use his gloves 3-6 times and he keeps most everything else in that bag of his. Take away Umbra's bag when his charges are used up and the worst he can do is punch the guy.

// Oh, and there's the Cloak and Dagger invis watch he took... But he can't attack while cloaked.

( also reposted from the Nexus RP because you're absolutely right. Damn, that place is insane... )

Also, as far as I know, Gonz, Ehks, Surge, and I have all balanced our characters enough that they aren't invincible and can actually be challenged... Only reason Umbra might seem OP at times is because I just get fed up with all the lousy shit some people come up with.
You probably know what I'm talking about when I say that.

Yeah... Some people are getting a bit out of hand, especially on the magic front.
That said, I'm also finding it annoying that Marx can't accept any magic at all and is constantly complaining about it...

It's funny. In hindsight my retcon vault is full of countermeasures like that. Magic? I made a magic jammer. Self repairing metal? I made a warhead that rams a tube into the breach point and then injects a secondary explosive. Magically enhanced swordplay? I built a bigger and beefier Enforcer droid optimized for CQC. Barriers? I built a heavy railgun platform.

Hey, I don't blame you. It's good that you're coming up with actual methods of retconification.
...That's a word now. Retconification.
Now you can see why I kept space magic, psionics and other amorphous rules out of the "core" Avali setting Wink

Well after I parted ways with my old RP group I purged the Tecarian lore. You see the Tecarians themselves began as one of those countermeasures, then evolved into a whole universe that only I was ever interested in. After the collapse I had all this lore that at least half of could stand on it's own, so I reworked the other half, which included removing a lot of the more exotic designs from the armory. Of the examples I provided only the railgun platform (M1A10E4 Longbow) survived.

That's really smart of Ryu.
...
That was terrible and now I feel terrible.
Had to dig up my old armory list on /r/worldbuilding to find the model ID of the Longbow.

Edit: http://reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/comments/1mp1ol/what_are_the_unique_weapons_of_your_world/ccbby06

This is the comment chain where I keep my armory list, all the lore and such is probably still accurate so here's some reading if you're interested, just be aware I never corrected any of the typos.

If you don't enjoy the breakage of the fundamental laws of physics and the universe in general, please stay clear of the RP thread. Failure to keep a minimum distance of 1.7 km between the RP thread and your person will result in extreme and potentially fatal exposure to radiation.

I've considered leaving too... But I just can't.
For the same reason I have trouble letting go of old story ideas and usually repurpose characters: I don't like killing off characters in any way, including neglect of writing for them.
I JUST CAME OUT OF 30 MINUTES OF UTTER HELL. DESPITE USING UNDERLEVELED AND WRONGLY SPECCED GEAR AND BEING ILL EQUIPPED FOR HIGH LEVEL PLAY I TANKED TO VICTORY ON THE HIGHEST DIFFICULTY IN THE GAME!

I AM EXCITE.
And hallelujah, I have finally made up a reason why Galaxion's GUARDIAN DNA thing is actually bad and not a Deus Ex Machina. You know, besides the psychological trauma caused by random mutations.

Yes, I see this too. People shouldn't be able to just handwave apocalyptic events and then undo them just as easily.

In fact doing much at all using magic should leave you exhausted VERY QUICKLY, to the point where you literally can only use your abilities a couple of times a day before being too drained to move. Similar for technology- it runs out of power after only a couple of shots, and cannot do much more than chop down a tree or blast open a door.

YOU, stop being such an IDIOT. You very clearly know how to RP properly as demonstrated by the nice chat our characters had earlier. Ehksidian is not the only person with moderator/administrator access just so you folk are aware of that.

But I would prefer not to have to use my access to actually moderate, I don't know you guys well enough to fairly moderate you other than correcting obvious problems and cleaning up spam.

I will have a word with Ehksidian about what it would take to get a couple of people promoted so that we can keep things at least orderly.

Now, my apologies for suddenly locking the thread, but it seemed like people were getting a little stirred up to the point of wanting to quit RPing.

Such drastic actions like character deaths and ragequits are not neccessary.

But EVERYBODY needs to nerf their characters to comply with the following:

- We are NOT gods. We do not know everything, we cannot DO everything.

- Technology has its limits, very clearly and well marked. Yes it can bring you back from near death with a suitable apparatus, but you're not going to get handwave level undoing an apocalypse unless everyone has agreed upon the existance of an installation capable of doing so.

- The same with magic as with technology. Evne time travel is pushing it, making and destroying worlds is beyond. Even I was pushing more than I like earlier having Danu successfully defend her home. And again it has a price to use it.

- No more of this doomsday device/spell/natural disaster. It only annoys people, and since it gets instantly retconned anyway all you are accomplishing is making people mad at you.

Yeah, I have to admit I'm guilty of at least two things on this list... I don't really like using that whole "altering reality" thing if I can help it, and there is a toll being taken with what I've been doing... It's just that nobody knows it yet.
(that, and I don't quite know exactly where to put it/how to explain it)

Penguin has been asked, told, ordered, and advised to change his ways on multiple occasions and every time he has shown that his only interest is to harm himself in every way he can think of because he's worthless and nobody loves him. A self image which he has crafted carefully by undermining his reputation at every turn and making as much of an ass of himself as possible.
Which ends up leading to the current topic in RP.

Should death be permanent.

I personally think it should. Characters shouldn't be killing themselves just because they can, if a character dies at all it is because the creator is tired of using them and wants them removed from further story development.

At the same time, since this is a casual RP we're talking about it would make sense for some sort of revival chamber to exist for people to use on the off chance they do get their characters killed.

Well, the only characters that have actually killed themselves are Penguin's. The rest either died at the hands of others because they were nothing but trouble or somehow died in another way...
I am still not following the RP thread at all. I'll ask for somebody to fill me in when I come back.
