Yeah, I'll just follow through on the key plan...
Next time, Nuclear Throne. Next time.

Oh wait, do you mean in-universe threat?
I just realized that's probably what it is...

I remember checking recently and keys were worth like 30 ref. They used to be worth like 3. If that's not massive inflation I dunno what is.

Well, now they're about 19.22, I think...
It's mostly about what site you're using/checking.

My point is though ref seems to be very rapidly declining in value when compared to a stable currency (keys). I dunno if there are good ref sinks or anything but it seems like a poor investment.

When I last checked they were about 10.
Jesus fuck...
What happened to the economy?
Wellllll... I was maybe gonna RP a bit in the OOC/Nonserious (neither of which are particularily accurate names) thread but...
It's turning into a battle of actual OOC discussion sooo...
Hm...
Guess I'll go see if the SBForum RP has anything new.
Welp, nothing new there really. Dam (of the beaver variety), that thread's slowed down to a snail's pace... Unfortunately...
*Sigh*
I like that RP, I don't want it to die...

Well, there's more weapons and cosmetics, the playerbase hasn't shrunk...
I think it's mostly about there being a ton of items out there easily craftable into scrap.
((All this talk of magic and specifically the handwavey infinipower kind has got me thinking.

I have no idea how to write a serious threat that's actually threatening to everyone without being completely impossible to beat.
Like really, my gosh. I've been slowly building up to this for ages and I don't want it to disappoint but at the same time if I make it too difficult or something then everyone'll flip...

It probably happened because ref is constantly entering the economy but keys aren't. Keys are more desirable then ref so everyone wants to get rid of their ref for keys. Thus the value of ref goes down as more and more people want to buy keys with it. The amount of keys entering the economy stays about the same though, but the amount of ref is constantly growing so you need more and more ref to buy a key. Anything to do with ref very quickly becomes worthless.
The reason keys are so stable is because they are bought only with real currency - this stops the value of the key from shifting much from that. People trading keys for other things want at least that much value from it and people trading for keys will only pay around that much otherwise it's better value to just buy the key themselves.

Personally I like the classical "boss battle" approach where something the players have thus far depended on (magic, railguns, etc) is rendered near worthless by some preparation on the boss' part (Athena, plasma shield, etc) forcing them to fight out of their element.

// Well, he might be hard for Umbra... especially since he can only use his gloves 3-6 times and he keeps most everything else in that bag of his. Take away Umbra's bag when his charges are used up and the worst he can do is punch the guy.
// Oh, and there's the Cloak and Dagger invis watch he took... But he can't attack while cloaked.
( also reposted from the Nexus RP because you're absolutely right. Damn, that place is insane... )
Also, as far as I know, Gonz, Ehks, Surge, and I have all balanced our characters enough that they aren't invincible and can actually be challenged... Only reason Umbra might seem OP at times is because I just get fed up with all the lousy shit some people come up with.
You probably know what I'm talking about when I say that.

Panic probably. If people were stockpiling them as a trade item, and the price started to drop suddenly (Either due to genuine over-supply, or due to rampant under-cutting), the stock holders might've started to sell their stock quickly, under-cutting everyone to clear their supply quickly before the market declined further.
Faster the price drops, the more panicked stock holders become and the more likely they are to dump THEIR stock, til the market crashes completely and all the previously held stock gets dumped into the market at once.
