Wonder if there's bionicle 'sonas.
...
I creeped myself out.
That doesn't happen much.
... you just reminded me of that time I accidentally came across Bionicle porn on Google images.. WHYYYYYYY

All kinds of different animals and stuff made out of various bionicle parts. They're pretty good for kitbashing because you get so much articulation with them, a few other Lego "brands" of the time had really similar styles probably because of that.
Hmmmm.
Guess it's a universal mystery to me.
It's just mix and match lego action figures to me. :/
I'd rather build a life size one out of plain legos.
But whatever. I'll just assume there's some sort of wide spread bionicle fetish or something and pretend I never asked.
The biggest attraction of Bionicle was a deep and developing story. It had villains seem 2-dimensional and then it reveals a reason that makes them thicker. It had offhand references to islands never visited in the main toy line, and species that never appeared as a toy. There were books (no-one ever likes to talk about the movies), short stories, and bit of information scattered about the ever-changing website. There is a good-sized wiki for everything we know about Bionicle.
Kids got it because it was a toy. Everyone else got it because it had a tale.

Also that is one of the reasons people hate the new sets, even though as buildable and playable sets these are the best ever.
The story for the originals was so much more complex and better, with many different characters, the new story is meh.

They had their own words for things, even! And they threw it all away!
Why are they getting mask? What is the Mask of Creation doing on some plain island? What the hell happened to even a sense of storyline? Why are there spiders? Where did this enemy even come from? Where did anything come from? Did they even think up a creation myth?
Why the heck did Lego short-stick the entire storyline of the original? I think Lego built the new one to cater to the dense generation.
Long story short: As a buildable set? The new Bionicle is far better. As having sets that have a meaning backstory and character to them? The old ones are always better in that context.
... but sadly buying just one of the old sets in Israel cost about as much as all of the 6 new toa, so I just get the new ones and pretend that they're related somehow to the old story.
Anyways I'll be going since I have to work soon and my brain is being kinda overflooded with info so see y'all awesome peoplez next timez!~
The Bionicle team basically put up a sign saying "make your own!", since they made kanohi and elements never used in the main plotline, then introduced places where you basically slot it in without fucking up the story.
