(06-24-2015, 11:10 PM)Umbra Wrote: [ -> ]See, that's what I do. I take my best armor defensively, my best melee weapon, and two ranged and two magic weapons. Sometimes there's molotovs in the mix, too.
I only use the sword if something gets too close, however, despite the high defense and melee bonuses... Mostly because melee isn't effective against most bosses and I use arenas and lava traps a lot.

Magic is just highly efficient in-game, and extremely versatile. From the infinitely rebounding Shadowbeam Staff, to the AoE explosive Inferno Fork, to even the slightly boring but still highly useful Ice Rod.

It doesn't rely on ammo like Ranged does, you don't have to get that close like Melee somewhat has to, and magic regenerates pretty fast as well as the STILL overpowered Mana Flower.

Call mages wimps all you like: If I can clear a screen of enemies faster than you can, without dying, I'm far, far more effective than your swords and armors.

Besides, I prefer to use the Hooded Spectre Robes since I can negate most if not all of the damage reduction, so not only am I still hurting I'm also keeping you alive.

Well, yeah, I use magic and ranged more than I use Melee. Whether I use ranged or magic more is purely situational- usually, I'm switching between the two, like with the Twins- I'll use some magic items, and when I run out, switch to a Minishark or Megashark. The only reason I use highly defensive armor is because I'm more or less bad at dodging, and enemies could come by and surprise me at any moment- I'd take a set of Spectre armor any day, though. I haven't gotten far enough in the game yet to get that or any of the better magic weapons, unfortunately...

This might sound like a stupid strategy but, try stun gassing reapers, that might be a way to stop them in their tracks, also non lethally 'killing' it

I practiced dodging, and even then I still prefer a set like Titanium. You can't go wrong with that invincibility buff.

... Just takes fucking forever to make that armor.

Been trying that. The squad has gassed themselves twice now.

We also still lost the demolitions trooper.

Edit: BROOKS THAT WAS THE BEST AUTO BURST I'VE EVER SEEN YOU GLORIOUS BASTARD. Alright people we're clear to advance.

Which is why I'm sorta kinda patient and hoping that I get Titanium for my third hardmode ore.

Still it could take a week or two for it to be 1.3 compatible, we dont want to grate a world with both crimson and corruption but without the 1.3 stuff

yeah that wouldn't be good

You should practice careful movement, walking through tiles tat are not effected by the stun gas, although serbilian is not effected by smoke screening, but I think you can conseal yourself from.reapers with smoke
THANKS FOR THAT UNTARGETABLE REAPER GAME. NOW I'M DOWN 2 MEN.

Ever seen one of those videos of a recruit being trained on grenades who throws it a whopping 2 feet? Yeah my men keep doing that.

I'm a sucker for chlorophyte. I guess magic is useful because of the whole "it regenerates" thing but I still prefer ranged for the never-stop-shooting ness. Really magic kinda has the same problem with carrying around mana potions and using the mana flower if you wanna use magic for prolonged periods anyways.

If I hadn't lost an assault to him gassing himself this reaper nightmare would still be perfectly feasible.

I'M SORRY I THOUGHT YOU WERE A SNIPER. THAT FUCK IS 10 FEET AWAY IN THE OPEN, IT'S BEEN 3 TURNS AND YOU HAVEN'T HIT HIM ONCE.

Do you keep getting your experienced soldiers killed? You know they skill up over deployments
THAT'S RIGHT YOU INSECTOID PILLOCKS THIS IS CALLED A KILLZONE. YOU'RE STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

Over half of the team is officer rank.
Also important note, dont smokescreen yuorself, your best bet with reapers is reaction fire, so those shotgunners are realy useful, they got a x1.5 reaction so dont spend all their TU in one turn

I'm pretty sure screaming in the middle of a battlezone is the reason they know your position

I don't even use smoke grenades. Also again, 2 foot throws when I try to gas the other side of the room.

you do know you cant throw over some walls also there's a percentage for a chance to hit a target make use of that, and high strength units have better throw range
