Just the only thing that matters. As unintelligible as this seems. It means something.
Hope everyone is doing better than they are on this forum. :U
That would require me to have an even moderately active social life.
Segolia. I believe the current situation can appropriately be summed up as. "I hardly even know you." So you're very likely correct on it being the tight knit group that you moved away from side of things that surge is really bringing up. Sounds like it's simply a question overall why the forum even needs you as a mod. This is not an insult. As things are currently. The forum isn't active enough during the hours that you are to require you to even be a mod, let alone, here at all.
Not knowing someone makes it difficult to know how they will react to what you do. And so we can only apply our best guess; which is sometimes way off.
Active social life? What's that? I just mean by the reference of "If you don't currently want to stab someone, you're doing pretty good." :I

Can we find a different definition? I'm feeling discriminated against.

Sorry.
In any case. Off to bed because it's nearing 5 AM. I wish everyone well. Good luck, good night.

Regardless of forum activity, I'm sure Ehks rests somewhat better knowing he has someone he trusts watching the forums when he isn't here.
The entire discussion over this is pointless because it's in Ehks' (or Odin's) discretion about mods (and those willing and capable of doing it) being necessary.
Discussion is never pointless as long as it isn't heated. ^-^

Regardless of how stable the community appears, there always needs to be someone that people can get to intervene if a conflict happens- which shouldn't really be happening often anyway with a small community like this. Loose lead is indeed the best, keeps the atmosphere comfortable instead of nazi strict.
Its better for the community if the people doing that are regular participants in the community itself, but this isn't always practical especially because the burden of responsibility tends to transform an enjoyable participation into a part time job.
I've told people before that I try to avoid moderating myself, but will step in if there is a problem that isn't being handled or if I know a particular situation is likely to worsen if left alone. Usually in such a situation I'll make sure ehks knows since he knows you guys better than I do.
The forum keeps logs of every moderator and administrator action to take place, so if there is ever a question of someone doing something they should or shouldn't with their authority ehks and I can check into it and see what happened.
...Did we just lose data?

Most of today is gone.
GOD DAMNIT.
A little over 24 hours worth of data loss.
The new server hardware was defective, and had a hard drive go completely flatlined this evening a few hours ago.
Fortunately the provider had kept a snapshot of the drive images from before migration, and put us back on the old hardware for the time being.
I hate it when stuff like this happens, especially when it happens on a holiday when the site needs to be up so people can use it.

Still better than Chucklefish' track record.

I would say this has happened two times too many but it's mostly out of your control so I appreciate the degree of transparency you provide on demand.

Due in large part to the lack of "we're in charge, this is our domain, we don't owe you anything" from administration.
AAAAANYWAYS.
happy new years you bunch of hippies.

Twice too many indeed. At least this time they had taken a backup as part of the migration process that was usable. If we had to use my backups for this, it would have reverted us to Sunday.
Unfortunately this is the reality of servers. Things go wrong, and the backups are never perfect- though you can at least keep the losses to a minimum. I've used cloud-backed servers before and had just as much downtime and misfortune with them as the current solution seems to be experiencing. Even the mighty google has visible outages and downtimes every so often due to hardware software or technician problems.
I am sitting here glaring intensely at the "users browsing this thread" list because I do not trust it at fucking all.
Ehks Odin Segolia Surge Umbra.
Off the top of my head it was users active in the past 15 minutes, and the only time someone would be browsing that you can't see in that list is if they have their user profile set to hidden to keep it from appearing in those lists in which case only Ehks and I could see it.
From the server's perspective, December 31 never happened. The data goes from December 30 to January 1 without any in between. By now records from anyone browsing when it went down for the initial migration should have timed out and been purged, so yes that list should be reliable.
grumble grumble lotta people logging on to do a whole lotta nothing...
Well, now that this is sorted out: Happy new year, I guess.
I'm more annoyed the Fox's 30mm is just 6 shots, I'm sure it's counter part BMP-2 has more shots and maybe larger caliber, what am I? a 30mm revolver with wheels?

iirc the BMP-2 uses a 2A46 30mm, while the caliber is identical to the Fox's 30mm, which I BELIEVE is a RARDEN similar to the Warrior, the Fox does nearly triple the damage with each shot and has more penetrating power.
