Well for one.... performance issues are based on hardware and software working together right. In my case i would most likely have performance issues with almost anything as i don't exactly have money to afford a computer capable of running even medium end modern games without workarounds.
as for campaigns in RTS's i have seem good campaign stories from RTS.... sure they are not great but they hold up.. one that comes to mind is Command and conquer and another is Earth 2150 but this is my opinion of these games... and i could be blinded by nostalgia for them as i grew up on them.

There are the two big blizzard games too. Warcraft III, Starcraft II and the subsequent expansions are all some pretty great campaigns.
I mean, even their base games have better storyline and missions than some newer games.

that is very true actually! blizzard is good for making storylines in their games... why are there no more good storyline games .... or not as much as before... i know i know its not really that big of a number... but i remember alot of stories in games in the past over modern games... hell borderlands 1 & 2 for me was so forgettable... all i remember is a few characters... thats it..
