Yeah... I've fought him eight times so far. I'm a sucker for the Slime Hook and Slimy Saddle, and I've only gotten one of the two.
Don't bother unless you want it for vanity, though- it's basically a weaker version of the Fossil Armor.
this is why expert mode is great
(pretty much) guaranteed at least one special drop from a boss, so there's no stupid amount of grinding!
You know like he'd have the full plate armor over everything but the one arm, which would just be a magical construct of solid metal.
Makes enough sense. I had a similar thing going on for a character of mine- he had two augmented arms and wore hidden armor everywhere but his arms.
Because, well, you don't need armor for a body part that's essentially all armor and replaceable/repairable.

Makes enough sense. I had a similar thing going on for a character of mine- he had two augmented arms and wore hidden armor everywhere but his arms.

Not to mention the fact that it's required to be charged with mana at all times would probably make it a good conduit for less precise spells.

What if the arm had a mana discharge when it took certain increments of damage?
Like, for example, I slash at it with a sword and some of it bursts out, damaging me?

No. Mainly because the magically forged metals would be more likely to resist the slash better than the plate armor anyways. I suppose there would certainly be a few crystals embedded deep in the metal that act to focus and store mana that would certainly cause a mess it broken.

well I dont want to craft and use a spanner, almost got myself killed with no armor sneaking in to a crimson cavern to destroy a heart for a gun, and I've been killing slimes, I'm not sure how many but you can get it to spawn naturally if you killed enough I guess.

That would count as a precision spell and be doable with the other arm.
More active than natural obviously.

Uh... I don't think that's how it works.
I think it will only spawn naturally in two occasions (unless there's a third I don't know about):
1. Near the end of a Slime Rain (of course this could be what you mentioned, killing many slimes)
2. Rarely in place of a normal slime in the leftmost or rightmost thirds of the world.
