Uh... I don't think that's how it works.
I think it will only spawn naturally in two occasions (unless there's a third I don't know about):
1. Near the end of a Slime Rain (of course this could be what you mentioned, killing many slimes)
2. Rarely in place of a normal slime in the leftmost or rightmost thirds of the world.
so far I've traveled to the right most of the map to the ocean, no angler NPC there and no slime king either, and I'm not sure hot to trigger a slime rain, hopefully the chances are not too low.

In my opinion .... i prefer things to be more correct in anatomy... i kinda dislike things like boing boings on something that does not properly need them.. but for the ease of people's minds... ehh let them have their boings
