man he was tough, with full molten armor and accessories (giving me 52 def) he still did 50+ dmg per hit when his head was spinning.
and i dunno if this is an expert-mode only or if it was in normal mode too, but when you destroy a hand it makes the corresponding eye shoot homing skulls that deals quite solid damage too.
aaaand all he dropped was his expert-mode item and a fucking vanity mask. i wanted the damn book of skulls!
one dungeon raid later and i now have a night's edge which i reforged to legendary. guess i'm getting closer and closer to hard mode now...

Just after Hardmode's beginning. Been taking it slow and finding all that I can.
Working on getting a Cell Phone now. Just need a Metal Detector and everything the Angler can reward and I'll have it.
funny. i must have gotten at least 5+ metal detectors, but none of the traveling trader stuff. and I've checked EVERY trader that came by... all had food and furniture, some blocks and a katana.
didn't even have the cool revolver...
also i've been fishing like made lately, got a few neat things out of it, bombfish, tsunami in a bottle, etc.
but if you have started hardmode and still don't have full max-tier armor and tools and whatnot, make some crate potions, get the best rod you can, make a fake lake of 300+ water blocks and start fishing for crates. in hardmode those give hardmode ores and ingots, which while an in effective way, is a safe way of getting the metals.
So I saw a waterfall. I'll upload pictures when I get back to the cabin/shack for the night as any attempts to access the internet without Wi-Fi have proved futile.

Takes too long for me, and I prefer to get shit alongside the ore.
In my hunt for a Lost Girl (more like Hide and Seek Girl), I've gathered more than enough Palladium to make three separate sets of armor, enough Mythril for one as well, about 20 of those Ice Biome yoyos, 17 Mimics and their various drops, 2 Icy Turtle Shells (one of which is Warding), at least 4 Medusa Heads, and many, many more things alongside.
And it turns out that the Meteor Staff is VERY good at finding caves. At least, ones above you. Meteor projectiles produce a ton of light and voila, easy pathfinding tool seeing as it's almost entirely useless as an underground weapon.

easy way to explain it is...demonstration. Get a platform and a block. Put the platform next to the block, and make the platform into stairs leading up to it. Place blocks, leaving an open space every other block (ie normally it'd be ..... but place it like . . .). After doing that, hammer the blocks so they are these

if you already have a life form detector or whatever it's called it shouldn't be too hard to find a nymph.
They're also more common in underground tundras.
Same with Lime Kelp. Which is weird... I mean, how could Kelp possibly grow on ice? It boggles the mind.
