I don't really see it as 'unfair' when one holds my interest after so long and the other one can't?

It really is just my personal perspective, not so much a comparison of different games.

It is unfair though especially if you haven't played Starbound in a long time... I was fair with my points because I have played both Terraria and Starbound's latest updates and came to this conclusion. I mean I can't force you to play Starbound, but when you say, "where Starbound hasn't (in that respect. Argue how good it is now(?) all you want, but if I don't feel the drive to play it, the new stuff doesn't matter much)." and you haven't even played the latest update then that makes me worried.

Adorable. I found a squad full of newbies in warframe and now they're getting me to help them with void runs.
you know what i like about starbound
having different colored flashlights, i get some amusement whenever i find a color.
What's your favorite bird, Nexus?

The Peregrine Falcon. They look so cool.

Owls, obv.

Tough choice between the Northern White-Faced and the Great Horned.

I think that Shoebills are neat. I'll leave that up to you as to why I think so. It's kind of obvious, but some may not get it.

how to: build an ion engine out of scraps and a big fucking power source.

Not an ion engine. Corona discharge turbine.

These are made out of any suitable wire with coathanger being very common.

Bend to the specified geometry. Place on top of Tesla Coil secondary. (Half a million volts or so typical)

Switch the coils on and watch the heat and shockwaves of the corona discharges from the sharp points send the rotor whirling around all impressive and stuff.

Also this particular setup did not have symmetrical arms. One arm is longer than the other, thus the double-ring appearance when it is spinning.

Well I wasn't looking to apply precision engineering to a garage creation but neat.

That said, still a better love story than Twilightonline game than Elder Scrolls Online.

Note: Also, I'm back... Already. After my little freakout I realized that the rest of my usual internet activities are much more boring without the Nexus being around too. (I mean asides from TVTropes, which now sits at 529 bookmarks in my menu. Aaaaa.)

That man reminds me slightly too much of Keanu Reeves for some reason.

Edit: Also blew off steam by making a new avatar (which was far more complicated in process than I expected or intended) and signature.

Inspired by clockworks and neon lights I guess?
Inspired by clockworks and Tron Lines.

(09-06-2015, 05:42 PM)L3W Wrote: [ -> ]The one thing that annoyed me the most was the characters wipes back then. It was really annoying to have to do everything over and over again especially if you played with multiple characters (we are talking about the vanilla game so forgot about mods for the moment). Anyways I do miss the old sector unlock system. It felt like you had to work to get to the more dangerous planets. Nowadays I think the quests in the Giraffe versions are pretty boring in imo. Who wants to make coffee for someone? Seriously? I am glad they took that one out... (it was a chain quest as well). Also summoning the bosses was a cool idea, but I don't think it took too much effort to get the materials. It gave you a reason to go to different planets. Chucklefish is also getting rid of the robot boss. It was a really cool idea to build a boss that ended up attacking you. I don't really care for the penguin mech boss which is what the developers replaced it with.

Btw everyone has different playstyles which is fine, so don't worry about it.

*Note these are my opinions on how I feel about Starbound. It's ok to disagree*

A large portion of why Starbound was mostly meh for me is because, while some of it's mechanics are good, it could never hold my interest for long and I felt no drive or need to progress.

And that's a huge problem.

I won't compare the two, but I'll use Terraria as an example. I've played it over, and over, and over, kinda like the old character resets... Except I'd do so happily.

Something about the way Terraria is paced, or how things feel fair and not very grindy at first, or the simple joy of finding chests and ore... All that needs to be said is:

If I have over 1000 hours in Terraria, and I would eagerly replay it over and over, then it did something right, where Starbound hasn't (in that respect. Argue how good it is now(?) all you want, but if I don't feel the drive to play it, the new stuff doesn't matter much).

My main gripe with Starbound is the lack of interesting content. Too much is randomly generated and same-tiered. Asides from missions, which take ages to be made and come out, and the few very very rare actually unique weapons (most of which do very little special and are usually useless) are the only things that really interest me asides from collecting vanity and instruments (both of which have become way too rare in the latest update)

And that's exactly right; I feel no need to progress. Every tier is the same shebang: Go deep, try not to be 2shotted by monsters, spend far too long mining because it takes forever in this game, make stuff, do horrible fetch quests, do mission, rinse, repeat. Nothing feels new and unique.

In Terraria, every tier has unique and interesting weapons, armor effects, enemy types and AI, bosses, events, etc. and then Hardmode happens. You can find weapons way above your power-level and skip tiers and do all sorts of interesting stuff. In Starbound you're always at the tier or one tier below, any weapons or content you find is leveled to your current tier, making it boring, and weapon progression has gone down the drain now that your armor is what determines your damage (seriously, derpfish?)

It's too balanced, too dull, too repetetive, and too randomly-generated.
