I've been putting off man-portable railguns for the Tecarians for a long time (outside of the M90 sniper and M91 marksman railguns) because halving the magazine capacity of each soldier for power cells just doesn't fly, but I could easily address that issue by connecting the railgun directly to the infantry droids' own power core. However the issue with that is that most droids lack the external connections for such a high gauge power cable, we'd need a whole new model of droid to accommodate that system...a whole new model such as the new Dragoons, who would also benefit immensely from a high caliber, high powered weapon with minimal recoil.
you know the railguns could get their power tap directly from the mechanical user instead of a external powercell, I mean they have a decently powerful power core right, also you could just use wires/jumper cables but I'm pretty sure you already heard of wireless power just from the palm to the grip.
If power is really the issue remember the conversation we had on Electromagnetic-gunpower hybrid system could work.
That's exactly what I'm saying though, the droid itself is the external power source. We can't do this with 3rd gen models because of how large the cable would have to be to meet the demands of the railgun, but the new 4th gen droids can easily be made to accommodate this feature.
MRW I'm playing WoT and some tough guy in his big and mighty 47 ton KV-1 parks downhill from my 100 ton O-I prototype.
spoiler alert, he went from full HP to pancaked in 1 second flat

(09-22-2015, 10:49 AM)Shaadaris Wrote: [ -> ]Is anyone here knowledgeable in python 3, specifically when it comes to JSON and unicodes?
I have a little project I'm working on and I've hit a snag. Anyone remember the idea I had for a procedural pseudo-language generator? Well I'm working on it. Only problem is that the way I have it set up, it writes new words to a JSON file and this happens:
{"dog": "\u0251\u00f8"}
The problem here is that it automatically encodes the nonstandard letters I'm using into this format, which means when I go to compare a string to check if the word already exists in the dictionary file, it thinks it doesn't and rerolls the word because "\u0251\u00f8" does not equal "ɑø".
I've tried encoding and then decoding it in a more manipulatable format like utf8 but the resulting unicode object isn't serializable in JSON meaning I can't write it to the file. I've spent ages trying to fix it and nothing is working at all! ARGH!
def readJsonDict(file):
with open(file,'r') as f:
d = json.load(f)
f.close()
return d
def writeJsonDict(diction,file):
with open(file,'w+') as f:
json.dump(diction,f)
f.close()
inp = inp.split()
words = readJsonDict("Aulzhn.txt")
for x in range(0,len(inp)):
for i, j in words.items():
if inp[x] == i:
inp[x] == j
break
neword = ""
while True:
inum = len(inp[x])
if inum <= 2:
onum = random.randint(1,2)
else:
onum = random.randint(inum - 2,inum + 2)
for y in range(onum):
let = random.choice(landiction_aulzhn)
neword = neword + let
found = False
for o, k in words.items():
if neword == k:
found = True
if found == False:
break
words[inp[x]] = neword
inp[x] = neword
break
writeJsonDict(words,"Aulzhn.txt")
inp = "ˑ".join(inp)
repl(inp)
From what I'm googling (keep in mind I know basically jack all about character encoding) - try giving "ensure_ascii=False" as a parameter to json.dumps()
This stackoverflow answer suggests you can do it yourself with a lambda function (or regular function) as well. A little bit more wisdom here (but the example code seems to be largely a workaround for python 2 - seems that ensure_ascii=False and encode('utf-8') should be sufficient for python 3 assuming everything else is setup and the input itself is not incorrect in some way)
After putting ensure_ascii=False and encoding=("utf-8") in my json.dump and encoding=("utf-8") in my json.load it just spews out a bunch of completely illegible error messages. (Have I mentioned that Python has the worst error messages I've ever seen?)
ARGHHH! Why can't there just be an option to write and read the bloody things as-is into the text file? I know both Python and txt files can parse the characters in their raw visible form! It would help if all the help on the internet on the subject didn't seem to be trying to fix problems that are just different enough than mine that all the code suggested is useless because it just brings up EVEN MORE errors.
Speaking of which, I've already looked through all 3 links you sent me before I asked for help here >.< Bleh.
Everything I try solves one problem and causes another one...
Which now that I think of it is the definition of programming. WHY DO I ENJOY DOING THIS?
Also, Ehks, are staff applications and everything not in the "Nexus General" section supposed to be visible here by anyone even when not logged in?

srsly imgur whot're u doin'?
"have you turned it off and then turned it back on yet?"

So I cleared my browsing history since imgur got hacked and they advised everyone to do so, and somehow I restored all the RSS bookmarks that firefox wasn't able to sync properly

Okay after testing... Every time I reload the page it alternates between the correct images and "image does not exist" without fail.
I have somehow created schrodinger's signature images.
Edit: Restarting my browser has fixed it. Good. I don't have to try explaining this nonsense to imgur support.
I'm having an inexplicable issue right now in that the images I use in my signature on a forum, and ONLY these images, are showing as though they don't exist. Upon refreshing the page, they are shown fine. Upon refreshing again, they are "unavaliable or don't exist" and this alternation happens every time I reload any page they are on (including on imgur itself). Other people have seen them as the "nonexistance error message" too though I'm unsure whether they're getting the toggling via refreshing yet. http://imgur.com/ntLnEINhttp://imgur.com/2zBd6uOhttp://imgur.com/kqZRrPx and http://imgur.com/oludAh3 are the images in question, and the only ones affected.

What good would clearing your browser history do in this scenario?

No idea. I understand how it fixed my problem but... the exploit? They've patched it, and I don't understand what browsing history has to do with it... I guess unless the exploited code gets lodged in users' history or something and keeps running. (We are talking about the 4chan/8chan ddos via imgur exploit right?)

Do I look like I know shit about browser code and cookies? Imgur said there had been a major security breach and somebody tried to use imgur to build a botnet, and they advised all users to clear their browsing data and cookies.

Did some quick research on what a botnet is. It makes a lot more sense now.
Well today's weather here has been.......horrible, the downpour is very heavy you hardly can see the road ahead. So muc for your brits' cold and wet, we got oven hot and downpours.
Alright, I've been thinking, when japan finally receives tanks in warthunder, many speculate it'll only go up to tier 3 and end there because the lack of different models unless they include the lesser known prototypes that could get to tier 5.
But I speculate here is that they wont add the less known prototypes but instead move the speculated tier 1-3 to tier 3-5 just because of gaijin's "statistics". But then what will fill tier 1-2 you ask, well fucking unarmored gun truck that fires 7.62 and 12.7mm that cant penetrate anything not even trees, but wait there's a bonus, the prenium tank for those tier are suicide truck, yes that's right suicide truck, you ram right into the enemy tank just to find out you lost all control because your driver is unconcious and the enemy tank finished you off before you can detonate. Even if you do able to get the truck to detonate the enemy tank survives and sometimes not even scratched just bacause "statistics".

anyways I was having a discussion on Skype about a new star wars bounty hunter game and thought I'd share my suggestion for how they should do it.
I think the game would benefit immensely from a somewhat warframe-esque approach to things, for many tasks one hunter is sufficient, really you don't need 2 or 3 dudes for a deadbeat and splitting that bounty 3 ways will make it not worth your time, but every now and again you'll spot a price out on somebody really dangerous, maybe they're holed up in an old droid factory and have their own personal army of B1s defending them, maybe they prefer to fly around in a cruiser rather than a blockade runner, either way though it'll be in your best interests to recruit other hunters and split the bounty with them, in this way you can satisfy the multiplayer aspect of the game, then create social instances such as bars or other "underworld" locations where hunters can interact and shop for gear on the black market, and finally as everyone having a personal ship will be more or less a requirement you can put their personal armory and storage there.

Japan will likely get the O-I as a tier 5. 15cm gun will make it moderately competitive, basically a Mays with less armor and more firepower. Japan already has less historically accurate jets at tier 5.
