Side note, whenever I try to test my FTL mod the game is closed by a program (I'm pretty sure one of the Application Extensions as they're called.) inside the files.
Anyone modded the game successfully?

well, i've been playing it some, it's quite neat, the laser thing is cool, though stupidly over powered. i made a ship with 6 of those (i think it had around 2000-3000P) and it could win against my destroyer (powerful 8000P capital ship) so the laser needs a nerf.
a few more weapons would be cool too, like some cheap drones maybe.
also, i find that many of the hull pieces don't fit together. there seems to be a few shapes you can make when putting them together making ship building hard.
the sheilds are also a bit on the strong side, especially considering their piece size, so maybe lower the size of the sheild bubble and also lower it's life.

but the mod is really cool i'd love to see where ou take it!

I made everything balance around high energy consumption, and which lasers are we talking about? Pulse lasers, gauss beams?

And i have 2 types of drones already.

Did I mention they have 3 kinds of guided missile launchers?

And yeah i accidentally made shields too strong, i might make them slow to regen.

Also, my laptop died so expect it in probably a few weeks.

Well let's look at the source material.
Microwave laser: stupidly powerful but massive power draw and short range
Drones: the cybran nation uses nanolathe drones but otherwise only fields full size units
Geometry: Cybran units are very aggressive and geometric, triangles and trapezoids are common, in warships especially more complex shapes and structures are commonly repeated across several hulls.
Shields: best in the game bar none, they start as the worst but can be progressively upgraded much longer than others.

Well let's look at the source material.

while i agree that marx should take his inspiration and such from the game and how it works, i don't thing that's a justifyable reason to have it be unbalanced. unbalance like like this isn't a big problem, it's just fiddling with numbers intil it evens out and feels good. right now it feels pretty awesome to use the gauss beam, only it can kill a ship of medium size just by swinging the beam past it. sure the microwave laser might be powerful in SupCom, but it couldn't one-shot all t1-2 and some t3 units could it?

the drones is sore of soemthing i enjoy, i really like the way drones work in Reassembly, but they are often quite pricey to use, so a cheaper and weaker thing could be cool. (besides, aren't the cybrans often quite swarm-based with lots of assult bots and such?)

as for geometry it seems to just be some odd angles a few of them have. pieces that seem as if they should fit together don't and such. might just be me that didn't quite see how they should fit though, but i found the selection of hull bits that fit nicely together a bit lacking.

and again, while they might have had the best sheilds, it's better to have balanced good sheilds that over powered accurate sheilds.
