It actually already has an FPS mode on ground, I believe it's B or something that remaps fire to your mouse and gives you a reticle. You need to know all your ground hotkeys for it to not backfire on you though.
It's still a worse option as you can miss your target ON TOP of missing it by RNG.
Seriously I feel crazy for being the only one to like STO. The actual level grind is pathetic, it's like a week of mostly single player adventures to hit 50, two for 60. The story is all suitably and enjoyably cheesey, very star trek esque. The economy is decent, a bit convoluted at times but generally merciful to both free players and subscribers. It only really truly starts to collapse as a game at the very end when it has to start being an MMO.

You mean just like in any actual FPS? The difference being that bullet spread isn't visually represented of course.

It's not quite the same but I get what you mean.

Yeah it is a bit of a long shot, especially with beam weapons. Honestly I forgot about them because I used the antiproton carbine for so long.

By the way, did STO have new people in charge again?

No it's still Cryptic and PWE.

Then what is this Arc thing I had to go through?

I think that's PWE's, it's a unified system for all their myriad games, one account, one website, all that jazz.

I kind of lost count on how many unified systems I'm registered on by now.

you can find 'em while exploring
i didn't have to drop any energy whatsoever to get any of my 5* gear, i just found the orbs. Plus, you can earn crowns to buy energy (Really wish the price would go down...I miss when 7k CR was equal to 100 energy.)
Wait. You can find orbs in the Clockworks? How? I've never found a single one.

PWE already had a unified currency system with ZEN anyways (which is the only reason something so thematically inappropriate made it into STO) so I don't understand why they did all that work.

This "Unified system" thing is pointless anyway. I will, at most, play two games from any "Unified system", and that's when they get lucky.

Yep, developer loyalty is a thing, publisher loyalty not so much. Especially for MMOs.

To me, the only thing that is actually a unified system (or as close to it as it can get), is probably Steam.

With steamworks it definitely is.

As a shooter veteran - not many shooters actually have any considerable degree of inaccuracy - chances are it's almost certainly you, not RNG. It's almost all recoil. Typically aim spread/bloom only exists as a mechanism to dissuade poor fire control (guns start perfectly accurate but the bloom or cone of fire spreads with sustained fire) or as a general balancing mechanism (shotguns have a cone of fire to make them inconsistent outside of close range when the target is in the entire cone of fire. Snipers have huge bloom when hip firing to stop perfectly accurate shooting without the need to scope. Assault rifles do it so they aren't basically an automatic sniper in the right hands, throwing off shots at extreme ranges [damage falloff can also accomplish this])
So checked out some stuff for the new starcraft expansion...basically they decided the game wasn't micro intensive enough.
