I have legitimately pushed my friend to such levels of desperation in sword of the stars that he is now attempting to destroy my planets outright, or at least bury them in a nuclear winter, instead of conquering them.
I told him he'd regret attacking my stranded flagship instead of the rescue fleet amassing to save it.
I'm going to have to spice up the universe a little bit more. Things like the United Worlds being in constant feuds with other factions and the war being only between the Orion Alliance and the Republic, with everyone else in a state of "eh, we have our own problems" would do good to remove monotone.

I'd say move it here, on the grounds that it gives us a lot more creative freedom - i.e: we don't have the nightmare of trying to keep things as close to the Wiki as possible

3) Ah, faction design and balance, our favourite thing to play with. I might have to go back and read the Wiki, but the Avali didn't really seem to have much in wants or needs, or an overall goal. Heck, being nomadic I'm pretty sure eliminates the desire to build up a big galactic empire (something that generally requires fixed territories). Unfortunately I have no idea what to propose in it's place, I'll have to come back to this one.
