LO, HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN. THE SITE IS RUINED BECAUSE SOME OF THE ARTISTS HAVE A LITTLE STAR NEXT TO THEIR NAME! THE END TIMES ARE NIGH! REPENT! REPENT!
I know they had a little star next to their names before. But it was just that; A little star. Now, this star is quite a lot bigger and designed to stand out. My problem isn't that this is shown, my problem is that this is shown in such a way that they are basically telling you "whether or not you want this, you still want this". And that's just not ok.
If we keep letting them make things worse bit by bit, we won't notice just how much they already did. That's their strategy, and anyone familiar with how large corporations work will know this.
good show you just figured out the point of every ad that ever existed.

And you just figured out the problem with this. It's advertisement now, rather than information.
Also, what must I hear now, they also increased the prices for this "core", as well as reduce the perks you get from it.
For those who don't think I'm crazy for not letting them get away with it this time:

huh i just looked at the benefits, they don't seem too useful and if i were an artist i wouldn't get premium unless the print price is 4 cents and i'm looking to make some money for any art i make.

Sure, but according to them, you still want that
premium "core" membership. So go buy it now!

i'm fine with them saying that, they are just advertising something and i couldn't care less because of how well i understand how ads work.
I MADE A VIDEO! I'll start uploading in an hour or so.

That was the worst 40 minutes ever. I talked my throat raw and had to constantly ignore the fact that ants had suddenly decided to invade my desk and were trying to eat the EXPENSIVE screen protector on my phone, which I was using as a script, then my mic captured literally none of it.

It's a company advertising a paid service because they want to make money? I really don't see why this is coming as a big surprise or why this is such a bad thing? It's not like it's a personal affront to you or setting some kind of precedent.
I mean it'd be another thing if dA turned around and started going "you wanna post more than 20 pictures? get unlimited premium bandwidth. You wanna view mature content? premium. You wanna download images at their fullsize without a dA watermark? premium" but none of those things are happening. It's still a perfectly usable site without premium features.

Still though. Mobile site has ads that take up half the screen and easily a quarter of the whole page is even more ads. Different issue of course but still.

None of those are happening
YET. Do you really think they wont eventually try that too if we let them?
Also, here is another image:

I have this weird sense that fate is trying to send me a message with this whole exchange.

Well, looking at companies like nintendo and google; yes, you are correct with that.
However, in case you missed it: dA also doubled their prices on top of everything else.

and yet made premium nearly useless, i don't find it bad that they made premium less useful and increased it's price, i'm not sure everybody will want it now and yes it's price isn't worth what they are giving, but what they are giving is that useful anyways. those people who don't want can just cancel their subscription.

Yet they think they can get away with this.
We just have to tell them "No".
It's for their own good, really.

well yes it would be better to go back, but i'm gonna let them live with this mistake and i think they can get away with this, i just hope they realize that they'll make less money this way.
Jim, I think you're blowing this out of proportion, really. They're a business, and by far not the only one on the Internet for what they do. The argument about the advertising seems rather much for me, honestly. As for the prices, well, as much as I dislike capitalism, it has a nice thing: the market, the people's wallet, speaks the loudest. If people disagree with the new prices, they won't pay, that's just it. And if on top of that they try to restrict usage of the core functions of the site to premium members, it will just die out and be replaced with another site.
