I am fine with you doing some minor changes to the Avali for the RP because they seem impossible to play from a RP standpoint. Who wants all of their weaknesses? Not me.
I would do a Kineptic character, but I would rather be an actual Avali since *ahem* Avali Nexus Forums.

What weakness? They literally would have the best technology in the galaxy, because they can just print anything to deal with everything, make aerogel blades from lightweight hilts that somehow can hold enough aerogel to do that, and somehow survive a uncontained railgun going off in their hands.

I will agree that forming aerogel is not something that can be done easily from a small device and 3d printing does need constant materal equal to the object that will be created (which can still make anything). but an uncontained railgun is dangerous... the only thing i can think of is that they are regulated to not catalyse plasma on firing and have some sort of recoil reduction device. though the weakness to heat is often easily solved via the survival refrigeration suit.
Or, you know, it's a lower end railgun.

Yeah the 3d printers need to be nerfed. If not in complexity, then in the time it takes to print something.
Aerogel is fine, and I think it's made to be a fast-to-print material so that would explain why blades can be forged so easily. However, people should need to carry cartridges of Aerogel components that they need to load into the blade (I was thinking on the bottom of the hilt similar to a pistol) to print them. These cartridges wouldn't need to be that big since it's my understanding that Aerogel is immensely light and not very dense so you could pack a lot into a small space. The railgun is... uh... yeah. I think in the lore, though it wasn't really ever explained, they probably use exoskeletons, augments, or other such shock-absorbing equipment to deal with firing those things... Which is how it should be from a story perspective.
On the railgun discussion, I think Ryuujin probably is going to lean towards Gauss weapons instead of railguns due to versatility and just being able to use them more effectively without special equipment.
But other than that, the school I'm in just had a bomb threat.
Great fun.
Note that you can't even straight print metal and plastics. They don't bond at all without being molten, and that will cause deformation. You're basically just dumping nanodust. Even better: glue is only weak in comparison to the metal.
Solution? Use molds. Keeps it in shape until it cools, and at that point you don't need a printer. Problem: molding facilities at much larger than what they make.
Aerogel gets to keep it's priting usefulness since it probably has a bullshut property to bind with itself.

I heard it was possible witth special welding glues or welding with metal powders i would have to look up current 3d printing methods
few minutes later
ahha found something on metal 3d printing
http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/143552-3d-printing-with-metal-the-final-frontier-of-additive-manufacturing
as for aerogel its a rather remarkable substance... very good for insulation... it does not work like ryu says as far as shattering but... its almost as light as a feather and sounds like glass when it hits something... its weird stuff... also it can absorb heat from a bunsen burner and protect anythong on the other side... i remember seeing it protect a crayon from a burner... its rather interesting stuff
and how it is made
http://www.aerogel.org/?p=4
it could work just fine with the capsule system mentioned before

I'm pretty sure Ryuu's Aerogel is meant to be something completely different. Sort of like how in reality black holes are globs of ridiculous amounts of mass but in some settings they're portals to parallel universes and stuff.

i was throwing the more realistic stuff up.. just so we have ideas to work around... and there are multiple types of aerogel from what i saw... also when i think parallel universe portals i think wormholes not black holes... but ehh..
as for aerogel... anything with a thin edge could be made into a blade if vibrated enough... aerogel may not be super strong but i beleive vibrating it would not be hard to do... in this way i think it would work just fine as a weapon but that is up to others to say not truely me
uhhhh........

right, I'll be away for a while if you guys need me you all know where to go, it's like some lander sized shuttle has takken all my bellogings to. just a heads up, and just very confused
September 21st and it's 62F (16C) outside, sunny, and wonderful. What the heck? It's supposed to be 2 days until fall, which means around here it should have been snowing a month ago! [/joke]
I was just told silver is apparently saying shit about what I said on the rp thread here...
Silver, I said what I said because I DO care, I don't want you ruining things that don't need to be rewritten.
You're getting on people's nerves, you completely missed the meaning of what I said, and you seem to think that you have full authority around here. Reality check, you don't. Please stop acting like you're so entitled.
Can I leave now? Without someone telling me someone is talking behind my back?

I am taking about their biology weaknesses. I can't stand them being weak to water and not being able to breathe oxygen. Also I am sorry, but having Avali live on an Ice planet really makes no sense imo. They shouldn't have to rely solely on technology either...

isn't there a designated thread for this?

Meh. It is just a topic. I don't see why talking about it would be a problem. It's better than half of the stuff that gets talked about around here anyways...
i'd disagree i really don't care what your rp is doing and rather not see you discuss it, i just want to see people talk about whatever and post cool pictures of some sort. it's not all bad, sometimes people can actually conversate here.

I honestly don't really care for the nonsense that goes around here. If you want to see people argue then that is all that goes on in this thread.
Anyways Silver was asking the question to people who might be interested in the RP so, I don't see why is it such a big deal to talk about the Avali. I mean this is the AVALI Nexus Forums after all...
But to each their own.
the thing is that they should have seen the discussion thread already and talked there not here, especially since this was a topic multiple times over on that thread where people who care are already there.
Okay let's redirect the rest of this discussion to the thread that was made for it, 'kay? A little bit is okay here but this has gotten a bit too long for us to reasonably not be posting in the thread which has the sole purpose of housing this topic.

You know what? I'm not going to ignore this post.
Marx, you're not the honest man either, considering you've been opposing every change I try to make to the avali because apparently you're too attached to their aesthetic. You also tried to take over Psychokinetics because you couldn't wait without whining, despite everyone else being patient, and downright turned down Coro's opinions as if
your word was canon because of
your opinions.
I may have no entitlement, but then neither do you.
