This is literally the worst idea ever.

Another bad idea, armored suicide vest

With the explosives under the armor or over it?

If it's over that might mean something, preventing premature detonation and the armor becomes shrapnel.

Still, one time use.

Things involving explosives tend to fall under "one time use".

Random video game idea.

You play a combat engineer separated from his unit during a rapid withdrawal from a city, so you lay low and then find yourself alone behind enemy lines. You're a crafty motherfucker though and your allies left behind a lot of drones of varying types in varying conditions, so you can gather up materials and parts to build and repair drones, defenses, and traps inside a small open world where you have to juggle being enough of a nuisance to the enemies passing through that you help your allies and can be rescued faster, but not so much of a menace that they start going out of their way to hunt you down. So the player has to set up secluded stashes for what they can't carry, move static equipment in or out of the way of enemy units passing through, manage an inventory of semi-autonomous drones, hunt for and gather spare parts to keep his equipment running, etc.

Sounds like a single page from dead space taken and all the shit ripped out and replaced.

But less horror and more military shooter.

What are you talking about?  Dead space is an third person action shooter with minimal UI that tried and failed to include a "horror aspect".  Not a horror game.  If it was horror it'd need to leave some aftereffect on your psyche.  I can say I found it cute that it was trying to be all edgy though.

Isaac clark is an ENGINEER who was sent in to repair issues on a large outdated ship.  Standard blue-milk run territory.  Go in, fix something, get out.  Shit goes down yada yada.  And in the end he is constantly left alone to his own devices.  Even when he has allies.  He's left to his own for one reason or another.  Only due to the annoying "everyone but you is either dead or not allowed to be close to you because reasons" cliche.  But nonetheless.  That's why I said took a page and ripped all the shit out.

There is no negative context with which I have approached your thoughts.
I'm not saying there was, just that context is less eldritch nightmare and more regular old warfare.
No such thing as "regular old warfare". But yes. I do "know what you mean." As long as the players have the ability to improvise in a lot more ways than they'll ever need it would do fine.

Oh if I had my way I'd use the Tecarian universe and roll out some crazy enemies and equipment. Flying gun drones, infantry bots with all sorts of equipment ranging from rifles to riot gear, auto turrets, landmines, roadblocks, scout drones, all against everything Tecar can be bothered to muster, and the occasional Ares or Ronin squad hunting you down as a sort of boss fight.
Greasings members, new, old and the few that don't quite fit in those two.

I would play the fuck out of this.
I tend to do well in games that let you be kinda creative.  Everything from Breaking Portal two repeatedly thanks to practice with the source engine to the simplest tactics of outsmarting targets in shooters to remove them easily.  Games that restrict you to one thing.   Suck.

I would probably play it too.
You two say that because you don't know how being hunted by a Ronin squad would go

Oh no, I guessed it would be fucking terrifying and that's the exact reason.

Would you like me to draw up a concept for the Engineer?
