Welp, DeviantArt is now one of the sites that has big popup anti-adblock-ad-banner-things.
And from what I can tell, most everyone is annoyed about it because:
1. The site has a history of obtrusive, annoying ads.
2. The site has a history of infectious and malicious ads.
3. The site has a history of inappropriate ads.
4. They make money from other sources already, and are one of the largest art hosting sites in the world.
5. Any anti-adblock measures are ridiculous. People are not going to disable their adblock for you unless you can 100% guarentee your ads will not:

A. Slow down your loading times and take up bandwidth
B. Play annoying sounds or animations when you hover over them or randomly when the page is done loading
C. Infect your computer with malware or other crap
D. any other amount of stupidity.

People who use adblockers don't need to change. The people who use advertisments as their main revenue source, or really at all need to change. Nobody even clicks these ads, at least not intentionally, thereby making them pointless, and often turn people away from whatever they're selling.

Ads are dying as a business in the first place. People skip, ignore, or bypass them on computers, and often fast-forward through them when watching TV thanks to DVR technology. Ads are getting more annoying and malicious, making people not want your product or whatever, assuming you aren't just one of the numerous scam artists plaguing the industry, and commercials are becoming more and more phenominally stupid and repetetive, except for maybe like... 1 or 2 which might elicit a reaction other than complete apathy or hatred the first time you see them.

Just another example of the world clinging to a system that is outdated and doesn't work well with modern society and/or technology... What a surprise... [/sarcasm]

to be more precise, ^ this

jeese, can Kuala Lumpur stop having animals roaming around the streets, there was an ostrich already and now a horse? what next?

one shudders to imagine what inhuman thoughts lie beyond that mask, what dreams of chronic and sustained cruelty

All things considered, I was supposed to put ads on here too. Just I never bothered to install them because if done wrong it breaks skins and most people use adblock anyway.

I'm not nearly as intrusive with ad placements as a lot of sites are though. Just simple header and footer banners, scroll past them if you aren't interested. And I'm kinda picky about what ads are even allowed to be run, for a variety of reasons.

My problem with sites that have ads is when the site ownership tries to monetize the place, and puts ads EVERYWHERE. That annoys the living daylight out of me and gets the ad sources blocked in a hurry as well as discouraging me from using the site at all.

DA is one of these offenders, trying to monetize their site so heavily that the ads have become intrusive and annoying. I will not turn off my adblock on their site, and in fact I've used my adblock to block that popup banner as well. Maybe I would care a little more about DA's well being if the ads weren't freaking everywhere and the site wasn't a trash heap to begin with- all of the good artists migrated to Pixiv and Tumblr as a result of DA policy changes , leaving behind only the talentless and those who don't know better.

Now if this site became super popular and started costing me more than pocket change to host, I'd have to put the ads on to help offset the costs. But at the moment, the server statistics show that you guys are generating around 14,000 hits a day and using only 3.5GB of bandwidth per month. This is but a tiny fraction of what my server can deliver, so I don't mind letting you have it for free. Of course a year ago it was closer to 65,000 hits a day and 5GB of bandwidth.

I suppose Tumblr would be all around better to use. I don't get a lot of attention on dA.

What kind of loser put the time in to photoshop heybails covered into snow like that?  They're trying too hard to make people believe something that is false.  The cut edges are novice and the blending is quite poor.  In the first image it's so lazily done they didn't even bother to blend the inside of the bail in the background.  Yes I'm bored.  No I had nothing better to do than criticize someone I'll never meet.  I got called and told not to come into work today.

Also, you can use the wet carpet method to make snow take up a similiar shape to what is in the image.

If it was more, at this point I'd already be willing to help pay for it. It's fun being here.

Basically redditfurs has a new rule "no hatespeech" which is distinct from the "don't be a dick" rule because the chat is a horrible memey place where we call each other retarded faggots constantly and ironically, apparently this is because the new admins who recently migrated over from the now RIP steam chat are super sensitive about this nonsense unless it comes from somebody within their clique, and now the mod who explained everything to me that way in a pm is worried they're gonna run the discord into the ground.

Of course second hand account and such so I don't intend to bury myself in it unless one of them MAKES it my problem, but one of the new admins DEFINITELY seems the "trigger-me-timbers" type to go out of their way to be REALLY angry when you give them any excuse to.

Tapatalk says that the ads it used are credited to the forum that's being browsed when they show.

Google is your friend but ok...

It's a lightweight chat client for desktop, mobile and web (can be accessed from your browser).

IIRC it's cloud-based and the client software is open-source. It has a nominal focus on security but I think that's up for debate - but it supports features like self-destructing chats, messages, and even user accounts and end-to-end encryption.

Other notable features:
-Bot API for chatbots etc.
-Sticker packs (essentially create custom sticker packs using any image that can be easily used like an emoticon by anyone)
-File sharing
-Inline support for various media (gifs, links, recorded voice messages etc.)

Your user account is tied to a mobile phone number (or more appropriately - it effectively *is* your phone number) meaning you can't use telegram without a mobile device as you are required to authenticate this during installation. Your phone number is not exposed to other people unless they add you using your phone number - you can optionally create a unique @handle to use instead. It is possible to use a temporary sim or a virtual phone service (I believe in the US google offers such a thing) to sign up and receive the verification text but in this case it may become impossible to recover your account if the phone number you used to sign up is recycled or you lose access to it - not to mention the person who receives the same number can access your account, then.
